2021 Wrath Chardonnay, San Saba Vineyard

Wrath’s flagship 2021 San Saba Vineyard Chardonnay utilizes only selected barrels from our estate vineyard. We feel that combining lots that go through fermentation with native yeasts along with those inoculated with Montrachet yeast adds to this wine’s signature complexity. These lots go through ML while aging in French oak barrels (30% new). Aromas of apple and apricot blend with a hint of spice. A lush palate of brioche, lemon curd, and white nectarine finds balance through bright acidity and leads to a long, delicious finish that has a hint of nutmeg.

Vineyard Notes
Though our estate vineyard shares the same soil as the SLH AVA- Arroyo Gravelly Loam and Hanford Gravelly Sandy Loam- its slightly lower altitude gives it a unique microclimate with cooler nights and warmer days. This helps our grapes develop a spicy character along with its dark fruit. The cooler nights allow the grapes to retain their acidity which keeps flavors beautifully balanced.
